History

Hanhart was founded in 1882 in Diessenhofen, Germany by Adolf Hanhart. In 1902, the company moved to Schwenningen on the Neckar where his son Willy discovered a niche market for inexpensive stopwatches. The first model came in 1924. At the same time, Hanhart started to produce pocket watches and wristwatches. After his dad past away, Willy focused on watches and movements, the 10-line pin pallet caliber 34 and the 8½-line lever caliber 36. In 1939, Hanhart introduced a precision wrist chronograph for the German military pilots. After the Second World War, the production facilities were dismantled and it is only at the end of the 1940’s that Hanhart started to produce a new line with the “Sans Souci” alarm and a low cost wrist chronograph. After a lengthy pause, Henhart is once again active in the market with retro appeal watches.
