Beautiful 30mm watch from a very specific period when the company was named Black, Starr & Frost – Gorham.
In, 1929 Black, Starr & Frost merged with Gorham Corporation, and was renamed Black, Starr, Frost-Gorham then in 1962 Marcus and Company acquired Black, Starr, Frost-Gorham and restored to its original name Black, Starr & Frost.
This lovely stainless steel wristwatch peace is American history. With its cream dial on which comes Arabic numerals and a second counter at 6 o’clock. The hands are slightly yellow and originals. Luminous on hands and dial are fine. It shows how simple is beautiful. I never saw this particular model in the past. The watch comes with a brown band.
Founded in 1810 by Isaac Marquand – a silversmith whose family immigrated from France – Black, Starr & Frost originally opened as Marquand & Co. in New York City, making it the oldest continuously operating jewelry firm in the United States. At that time, two store clerks – William Black and Henry Ball – eventually joined the firm, which became Black, Ball & Company. In 1912, the company – by then named Black, Starr & Frost – moved to New York City offices at the southeast corner of Fifth Ave. and 48th St. It was also the first retailer on Fifth Avenue, the mecca for luxury brands.
Black, Starr & Frost has had a number of notable clients, such as the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, Carnegies, Guggenheims, Elizabeth Taylor to name a few. The company offers a tremendous amount of products and lines from gorgeous diamonds to coaster holder.
