Stunning full hunter gold-filed Rolex pocket watch. It has a round dial with a white enamel dial and Arabic numerals and subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock. The hands are black with “Cathedrale” style. The crown is at 12 o’clock covered with a bow. The back case is in gold filed with engraved inside “Star Dennison Watch Case Co. – 1000588”. The inside of the back cover is clearly stamped; STAR (the Dennison 'Star' cases where always 9ct gold filled), DENNISON WATCH CASE Co LTD (Aaron Lufkin Dennsion - one of the founding Fathers of the American Waltham Watch Company who moved from the U.S.A to England to establish the Dennison case factory).
Then you have a cuvette also in gold-filled with engraved inside “English make this case guaranteed to wear 10 years – 1000588 – 30 – 0”. The O is the first letter of the surname of the goldsmith at the Dennison factory who pinned the case joints - unfortunately on this occasion I have been unable to identify him. The number 1000588 is correctly repeated to the back case cuvette and to the underside of the bezel lip; 0444. The movement is a Rolex Swiss Made with 15 jewels.
In 1905, Hans Wilsdorf founded in London “ Wilsdorf & Davis” a wholesaler company. The same year, he signed a contract to distribute the Aegler wristwatches brand in UK. In 1908, he creates his own brand called “Rolex” abbreviation of “Rolling Export”. In 1914, Wilsdorf won a class “A” rating certificate from the Kew observatory in England. In 1914, “Les Fils de jean Aegler become Rolex Watch Co. Aegler SA, Manufacture d’Horlogerie”. In 1920, Wilsdorf founded “Montres Rolex SA” in Geneva. In 1926, he patented a watchcase with a screw down crown. In 1927 the “Oyster” was born when Mercedes Gleitze crossed the Channel in 15 hours and 15 minutes. In 1931, came the “Perpetual”, then the “Datejust” in 1945. Since 2000, Rolex makes its own movements and produce over 700,000 watches a year many being iconic like the Daytona, Submariner or the Prince to name a few.
The movement is a Rolex with 15 jewels.
